This car must be unique.
It was purchased new by my Grandfather in May 1980 from Sandicliffe Ford in Stapleford, Nottingham. The car was originally a 1. 3L in terracotta.
Included in this price was full rustproof treatment (Waxoil) by Sureshield and I have the original guarantee certificate.
The car has covered less than 58500 miles from new.
The car was owned and meticulously maintained by my Grandfather, a Rolls Royce aviation engineer, until April 1999 when he gave me the car.
Throughout his ownership of the vehicle he kept a logbook of all the maintenance carried out on the car and details of every tank of petrol he filled it with. Since owning the car I have kept this logbook up to date.
In 2006 I started the restoration of the car however I decided to upgrade it to 1600 Sport/RS specification.
The objective was to make a good fast road escort but very much ‘in-period’.
Work was completed in October 2007 and since then the car has completed less than 2000 miles.
The following work was undertaken:
Bodyshell and exterior
As the car had been subject to rustproofing from new, the only new panels required were two front wings and a front panel.
The floors, sills, inner-wings, battery tray, etc. are original.
All of the original floor soundproofing was intact and has been re-used.
I am happy to remove the interior and carpets for serious buyers.
As the shell was so good I decided to have it uprated with RS top mounts and inner wing strengthening plates.
I have all the photos of the before and after work.
The car was subject to a windows-out/engine-out, expensive professional re-spray in the original terracotta paintwork.
All window seals were renewed from East Kent trim supplies and a new screen was fitted as the original had de-laminated.
A 1600 Sport graphics kit was applied along with Mexico front and rear spoiler.
Original Sandicliffe number plates are still fitted and a Ford ‘tractor grill’ has been installed.

The engine has recently been rolling road set up by Sevens and Classics. It is extremely tractable and ideal for fast road use. Excellent torque characteristics.
